2021 for us has been all about keeping things simple, zero fuss and exploring new and better ways of doing things.  In our mind, life’s pleasures and treats are to be savoured and enjoyed and the key element to making that happen is time; one of the most precious commodities, particularly at this time of year when it feels like the days are running through our fingers.

We’ve put our ‘gin genius’ thinking caps on and come up with a list of little festive hacks and tips that will send any little niggles of festive overwhelm packing and give you lots more time to enjoy with your loved ones.

It’s beginning to look a lot like (a very chilled) Christmas!

Gift Wrapping Tips and Tricks (from a professional)

We know that Christmas gift wrapping can be a challenge. Luckily, professional gift wrapper, Jane Means has shared some genius tips and tricks with Caorunn on how to create a perfectly wrapped gift to be proud to give to your friends and family.

Wrapping unusual shapes

Jane suggests that for large items, such as a plant pot, a fabric tablecloth is best to use as they don’t disintegrate when soggy. These can be easily moulded around large objects and purchased from party suppliers and supermarkets. If you want to add attention to detail and go that extra mile, you can wrap the item in a scarf and give an extra gift! Jane continues to say that ‘’fabric remnants are a good way to reuse and recycle. You can place the item in the centre of the fabric and gather; tie a knot to secure and you have an eye-catching gift.’’

For smaller gifts, keeping it simple can have a stylish impact. Jane says: ‘’Wrapping can all be fun and games until you have an unusually shaped item on your hands. The best way to tackle this is to use flexible materials. Jane suggests that for wrapping a bottle of Caorunn or glasses, these are best wrapped with tissue paper, crepe paper, netting or fabric. You can also make tricky objects look classy by putting them in a recyclable box and creating a bespoke gift bag. Most importantly, these materials are easy to work with and can be purchased from your local shop or florist - minimal effort and a great looking outcome!

Festive Entertaining Hacks

Nothing puts extra heat into entertaining than going full blown domestic goddess in the kitchen whilst also spinning around the room to check if anyone’s glass needs topped up.  Create a well-stocked drinks station or gin bar with some pre-made cocktail jugs and a Christmas gin kit selection of festive garnishes and mixers for your guests to enjoy creating their own Christmas cocktails.  Our Highland 75 is peak ‘simple sophistication’ with an apple twist.  Mull over some more cocktail ideas here

Caorunn Hot Toddy Teabag

Impress your guests with a classic Hot Toddy (with a Gin Genius twist!).

A little bit of prep means a lot less faff, so save yourself some time on organising your cocktail ingredients and make a Caorunn Hot Toddy tea bag!  The perfect winter warmer to enjoy at the end of a cold December day by a cosy fireplace.

Take 300ml cloudy apple juice, add the toddy teabag (this includes a handful of Christmas spices - cloves, cinnamon and cardamom wrapped in a muslin cloth) and a handful of orange and apple slices. Simmer off the boil for about 15-20mins, then add a splash (75ml) of Caorunn Highland Strength.  Serve in an enamel mug with a few slices of apple garnish. You might also fancy a splash of Calvados or Apple Brandy for added sweetness (we really are ALL about the apple)

We hope our festive hacks will make the last weeks of December a fun filled, stress free experience and you can jingle all the way to a very, merry Christmas.
