There’s nothing quite like the crisp, refreshing taste of a gin and tonic, especially when the sun is shining or you’re unwinding after a long day – at least we think so! While it may seem simple, crafting the perfect serve is all about the details. Here’s how you can elevate your gin and tonic at home with a few expert tips from your favourite small-batch Scottish gin.

What makes a Gin and tonic so refreshing?

A gin and tonic is more than just a drink—it’s an experience. The botanicals in every gin tell a different story, shaping its distinct taste. At Caorunn, our story is rooted in the Scottish Highlands, where we hand-forage five Celtic botanicals along with six traditional gin botanicals. Infusing them together within our unique process using the world’s only Copper Berry Chamber to extract their full flavour. The result? A gin that’s crisp, refreshing, and unmistakably Caorunn!

The Gin and Tonic Ratio

Did you know the reason why tonic is considered the best mixer for gin? A great tonic water should be crisp, balanced, and not overly sweet. A gin and tonic is a timeless classic, but the secret to perfection lies in the details. The right tonic enhances the gin’s character, adding a crisp bitterness without overwhelming its botanicals. The golden ratio? 1:2—one part gin, two parts tonic. Want to shake things up and dial up the flavour? Our striking hand-picked botanical gin recipe is at its most efficacious in our higher-strength Caorunn Highland Strength Gin.

How to Garnish a Gin and Tonic

A gin garnish isn’t just for looks—it’s the finishing touch that elevates your gin and tonic. The right garnish enhances the aroma and highlights the botanicals. That’s why Caorunn is best served with red apple- of course!

How to Serve a Gin and Tonic

Ice

A gin and tonic is all about balance, and ice is essential. Large cubes keep the drink crisp, allowing Caorunn’s hand-foraged botanicals to take centre stage. Soft or crushed ice melts too quickly, dulling the invigorating flavours. Want to elevate your serve? Chill your glass beforehand for a refreshingly cool sip—perfect for warm summer days.

Glassware

Unlike other cocktails that require specific glassware, such as the versatile botanical spirit, a gin and tonic is excellent in a variety of glassware.

Copa glass

The right glass makes all the difference. A Copa glass, with its elegant balloon shape, allows Caorunn’s botanicals to open up, delivering a fresh, floral aroma with hints of citrus and spice. You can even get a branded Caorunn Copa Glass that’s the perfect gift for any gin lover.

Not got a Coppa glass to hand?

You can still get the Caorunn and Tonic experience in a Tumbler or a Highball. The tumbler, with its shorter height and broad base, enhances the intensity of your drink, allowing the botanicals to breathe and flourish with every sip. It’s perfect for those who like to savour the deep aroma of our Celtic botanicals.

On the other hand, the highball, famously paired with a Tom Collins, is an ideal partner for Caorunn as well. Designed to hold plenty of ice and accommodate a double measure, it keeps every sip as refreshing
